About Stratheon
The Stratheon project began in June of 2010. The goal of the project is to create a browser based RTS with real movement, commanding of armies, and battles on a mass-multiplayer scale. The Idea
As a game developer I had always loved the idea of the persistent world. Where things keep going whether you are there or not. As a game player I had always liked RTS games and had spent a large part of my life playing them. As browser and web site technology gets better and better I had thought it would be fun to build an in browser RTS. I had played may text/click based browser games but they all lacked that enjoyment of watching a battle happen. So Stratheon began as a test to see if I could make an engine that would provide a desktop animated battle feel with the easy deployment of a browser game. Another goal was to use http for all communication, therefore avoiding a lot of firewall problems. As the idea progressed other things like planets and solar systems entered the mix and made the game more interesting and much larger in scale. Development
The game is developed in an agile fashion. I have one list of potential future features and one list of current bugs. Generally the bugs get priority over features unless they are very tiny or almost never seen. I am always interested in feedback from players or really anyone interested in the game. A lot of good features have come from other people's "hey what about this" suggestions. Obviously I can't implement every suggestion, but whenever I can I like to have player feedback as a guide for planning features. Future
As Stratheon grows I will be adding new features and options for players. Periodically you will see updates posted on the home page and likely messages about upcoming downtime for updates. I apologize for the downtime and will try to keep it as short and far apart as possible. By the nature of the game it is necessary to bring in new features. |
